Excuse me but is that a dog you’re wearing?

There is this woman who catches my bus that looks like she’s wearing a dog. She’s really tall, at least 5′10″ so she stands out anyway. But it’s the coat that gets all of the attention. It looks like she took a German Shepherd and wrapped it around her shoulders. The coat is a brownish color and it falls about mid-calf on her. It’s a very long coat and it looks ridiculous to say the least.

She must have had the coat in storage because it smells like moth balls. I don’t know if the coat is real fur or not but she needs to put that thing down. It’s not because it’s questionably fur. I’m not a PETA supporter or fur hater. It’s just a big ole’ ugly, musty coat. With a emphasis on musty.

I’ll be glad in 2 weeks when I start taking a different bus. Until then I hope the dog runs away or something.

I can’t wait until Saturday

We’re driving up to Cleveland to get Indians tickets. I want to go to the Yankees series. It’s a 4 day series (Friday-Monday)  and I want to go to the Sunday game. We can’t go Friday or Monday because by the time we get off of work we would hit rush hour traffic into Cleveland. We would probably miss part of the game. I decided I would rather go to a Sunday afternoon game than a Saturday night game. That’s because the games are in Cleveland in April. The weather is so unpredictable that I would rather take my chances with a day game.

We’re planning on making a whole day of it. We’re getting up early and driving straight to the box office. Then we’ll get breakfast/brunch/lunch and head out and do some sight-seeing. We’ll probably hit the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and maybe this bar/restuarant that we saw where you can bowl while eating. I doubt if we’ll hit House of Blues since it will be the middle of the day.

Once I have those tickets in my hot little hands, I won’t care what else we do.

I really need new clothes for work

But right now I refuse to buy them. I’m still trying to lose weight and the weight is coming off so slowly. The good thing is that I know if I lose the weight slowly, I’ll be more likely to keep it off longer. I’m not taking anything either. No Orovo, Alli, or any of that other stuff. I just cut back on junk food and started exercising again.

Once I get down to a smaller size, I’ll buy some clothes in that size. I already have 3 or 4 really nice pairs of pants and a summer dress in that size. I can’t wait to get to that size so I can wear those clothes again. My goal size is 2 sizes smaller than I am now. I figure I’ll get there by the end of the year. Just in time to wear big bulky sweaters again!

As long as I look and feel healthy, that’s all that’s important.

I won’t meet one of my resolutions

I make resolutions every year and don’t meet them all. I try to make 5 but I usually only accomplish one. Last year was 1 out of 5 and that was my weight loss goal to lose one pants size. I’m trying that again this year as well along with 5 other ones I wrote about in my post 2008 New Years Resolutions. I don’t generally fail in January though. But I think that’s exactly what’s going to happen this year.

The specific goal is graduating college this year. I dropped my class this semester because it was way too much work. I was hoping to pick up 2 classes in the summer and 2 in the fall in order to get done this year. I just looked over the summer schedule and there’s only 1 class I can take. All of the classes I need to graduate are offered but they’re only available during the day. I work full-time so I can’t take day classes only night ones.

I’m not surprised that there aren’t a lot of classes offered at night. I mean who really wants to be stuck in a classroom at night during the middle of summer? I seriously doubt if I’ll be able to graduate now. I don’t know if I’ll be able to handle 3 classes in the fall. That’s assuming that 3 will be available at night that I can take. I guess I’ll have to wait and see.

Having fun at work

Sometimes I wonder if I work in an office full of children or if we’re all adults. I’m including myself in this. We just cut up and act up so bad some days. We have 3 teams that work together and each team has a main cut-up.

Some of the things we do:

1. We have a bag of candy that sits on one of my coworkers desk. Everyone is allowed to take his candy. Every 3 or 4 days someone else brings in a new candy for everyone. The guy who’s desk the candy sits on always says the same thing “I can’t believe this many adults like candy!”.

2. We have food fests at least once a month. One month it was because it was the start of Winter. Everyone brings in a dish or supplies for the party. As one of the non-cookers, I always bring paper plates, cups and napkins.

3. We recite television shows or cartoons (especially South Park or Family Guy) to each other. Today it was Sesame Street and I was The Count.

4. We act like we’re in one of those wine clubs or something. Everytime someone opens a soda or can of juice, me and my one coworker Walter shout “Cocktail”.

5. If somebody says something that sounds similar to a song, we’ll start singing it. Right now everybody bursts into “Apple Bottom jeans, boots with the fur.” We all love that song.

There’s  so much other stuff that we do that’s it’s ridiculous. Half of it would have us in HR if the right person heard us. Do you think that stops us?!?! Ummm nope. We usually just whisper whatever we have to say. Then laugh and keep going. I think it’s great that we all get along so well. I’m really going to miss working in this building.

The Sweater

This is a funny subject to me. I have this sweater that was a hand me down. I really like it too. It’s really a really soft comfy material. Then it’s 3 blocks of blue. Sky at the very top, then a almost turquoise in the middle and navy on the bottom. One day I had 3 of my coworkers comment that they used to have the exact same sweater. One lady’s sweater was purple and one was green. The last person had a blue sweater too.

It’s so funny because every time I wear it, somebody comments “there goes the sweater” and we all laugh. Do you have any weird clothes rituals at your job?

Another lazy weekend

We didn’t do anything this weekend. Yesterday we went out to get something to eat. As usual we couldn’t decide where to eat so we just headed to a local mall and got Chinese food. I had Bourbon Chicken with rice and John had some kind of Lemon Chicken with lo mein noodles. My rice was really moist but John’s noodles were dry. I had some extra soy sauce but he just ate it with the chicken.

After we ate we just browsed around the mall some. I went in and out a the shoe store without trying anything on. I didn’t go into the Gap either. We looked at video games and  original movie posters among other things. In the end, we decided not to buy anything and left the mall. I think the fact that it was so crowded really discouraged us from shopping.

Once we left, we drove around for an hour or two just driving and talking. Then we went and picked up some stuff for me to take to work and came home. Today we just sat around and watched tv all day. Like I said, this has been a very lazy weekend.

I still have a trainee

Ugh and it stinks! I know that everybody has to be trained at some point. We all do. But when you train someone, your boss usually takes most of your work so that you can stay current. They didn’t in my case. When I started work today I had to catch up work from yesterday and some from the day before that. Then I have to press to get everything done. Meanwhile I have to try to tell the person I’m training exactly why I’m doing everything that I’m doing.

I’ll be glad when today is over. My trainee goes off on her own on Monday. At least then all I’ll be doing is answering the occassional question.

I’m not getting anything done today

I’m training one of my coworkers on how to do my job. She does something totally different so this is all new for her. It’s taken me twice as long to get done what I usually do. The bonus for me is that she’s a quick learner and since she’s been in banking for so long, it’s not hard for her to understand.

We’re have a speaker come to the job today so I won’t do any work then either. It’s for Black History Month. He’s going to speak about the atrocities that occurred on the slave ships. But he’s going to talk about what the Whites as well as the Blacks on the ship went through. It should be pretty interesting.

I’m glad this is a short week though.

I hope my car doesn’t conk out

I’m pretty ticked about it too. It is a used car and I realize that they need maintenance but c’mon!!! I just got the car in November. Now the check engine light keeps coming on. Then the next day the light will go off. I need to get it to a mechanic soon to have it checked out. I have a warranty and I thought that meant that I have to take it back to the dealer that I got it from. But I don’t, I can take it wherever I want.

I also need brake pads and have them look at the windshield washer dispenser. It’s not sending fluid out. I do know that this will probably be the last used car that I buy. I don’t like having to pay because someone else was being cheap. The brakes I understand, it’s time for them to wear out. But not the rest of the stuff.

I do know that I’ll never buy from that dealer again either.
