Pirates tickets go on sale March 8th

I only care about the series vs the Yankees. I don’t care if we go to any other games. I know John will want to go to see the Mets during their series. Especially since one of the nights is a fireworks night. I don’t really understand how people can get excited to see the Pirates. They aren’t very good. They haven’t had a winning season in 15 years so it’s pretty hard to get behind them.

We’re already planning on going to Cleveland for several games. Cleveland’s tickets go on sale March 1st. We’re going to drive up there and get tickets for the a game or two. John said he always got better tickets by buying them at the box office instead of ordering them from the internet.

I love baseball season. That means summer is on the way!

The interview went well

I wouldn’t really say well, I would say ok. It was really laid back and casual. The manager remarked that she liked interviewing internal candidates because they already know you’re background and what you’re capable of. She said it makes for a smoother process and I totally agree.

I don’t even know how long I was there because the time just seemed to fly. They didn’t ask “typical” interview questions. Instead they dug straight into the what do you do now and which of our systems do you use regularly. I just kept hoping I wouldn’t give a stupid answer like “I like to use a billet grille in my spare time”. Like I said, they really kept it strictly professional but really laid back.

The department I interviewed for is similar in size to the one I’m in now. 3 teams with about 9 people on each team, each with their own supervisor. Each team is a progression from the previous team so there’s room for advancement. Unlike where I am now where you have to wait for someone to leave in order to take their position. It’s the same concept in theory but in my area everyone is the same job grade on every team. So even when someone leaves, it’s only a lateral move.

The manager told me that they will be interviewing the rest of this week and next week. So it will probably be two or three weeks before I hear anything.

Letting money slip through your fingers

That really annoys me. It seems like some people can always get their hands on spare cash and within days have nothing to show for it. One of my friends is like this. She can always get extra cash but she just wastes it. Last year she got over $2k from stock options from the company she works for. She got the money in 3 installments because it was 3 different disbursements.

With the first two she went and got tattoos that was almost half of the disbursement. Then she paid a few bills and wasted the rest of the money going out with her friends. She also had to pay back more than one cash advance that she had taken out. Then she complains because she wants to buy a computer and go back to school. Needless to say she’s not in school this semester because she couldn’t afford $500 for 2 classes. Major eyeroll there.

I shudder to think how she’s going to waste her tax refund. I wish I could get my hands on half the cash she does.

My interview is today

I’m not even nervous about it either. Which is weird because I usually stress all day when I have an interview. Not this time though. I think it’s because I really don’t care if I get the job. The extra money would be nice and the experience would be even nicer. Yeah imagine that, I’m more concerned with the additional experience than I am about the money. But I like my job and wouldn’t mind staying here.

I applied for this job initially several months ago. I never really gave it any more thought because it took so long for them to get back to me. I thought maybe they had filled the position or something. So I was surprised when they called me to schedule the interview. The only thing I’m stressed about? My hair! It’s a mess. It’s raining and humid outside so it’s turning into a frizzy mess. I forgot my hair clip this morning so I could clip it back, so I have it in a semi-bob hairstyle.

Oh well, it will be over soon.

I have an interview tomorrow

First let me say I hate job interviews. I suck at them. I’ve probably only had 5 interviews in my life. I was at my last job for 12 years and was promoted several times so I had no need to interview.

Then I came to this job that I have now. I didn’t do so well on the interview (or so I thought) but I got the job. I’ve only interviewed once since then. I thought that interview went ok but I didn’t get that job. Another person left and they wanted to interview me again but I got a promotion in my present position so I wasn’t able to go.

I have the basic experience for the job I’m going for but not some of the technical experience. I would have to be trained on their system but I’m a quick learner so I’m not worried about that. This job would also give me some great experience to put on my resume. I always try to keep an eye towards the future when deciding to apply for jobs. The extra money wouldn’t be bad either.

Wish me luck!

It’s already time to register for summer classes

I’m thinking of taking 2 classes this summer. Then I will need 2 in the fall and I’ll be finished. I’m not really looking forward to one of the classes because it’s a religion class. Some teachers are really sticklers when it’s a religion class.

I haven’t figured out how I’m going to pay for these classes because I don’t qualify for tuition reimbursement for them. I only have enough money to pay for one class. I guess I’ll have to figure it out between now and then.

Giants defeat the Patriots!

Ha! I am so happy. I hate the Patriots. It’s funny because nobody gave the Giants a chance and they won in the final minutes of the game. It was weird rooting for the Giants. It was like rooting for the lesser of 2 evils, but I just knew I didn’t want the Patriots to have a perfect season.

Eli won the MVP. I know that will be a trivia question down the road. What brothers won the SuperBowl in back to back years and were the game MVP’s. As an added bonus for me, John won his football pool. Awesomeness! It’s been a great day!

The reason I always write things down

It’s because I always forget something. Case in point: I wrote the post about the new Pepsi game called Pepsi Stuff. I was excited to start adding points to my account and seeing what the prizes where. I  can’t access the site from work because all of the good websites are blocked out. So guess what I did? I left all of my caps at work. I still can’t start playing the game until tomorrow when I get home.

I always do that too. Yesterday I went to the store with the purpose of getting some bathroom cleaner and toothpaste. I did get the toothpaste but not the cleaner. I didn’t even remember the cleaner until I got home. I mean if things like my home owner insurance and electric bill weren’t taken out of my account electronically, I would forget to pay them.

I always joke that I have old-timers. I’m really too young to forget as much as I do.

Mike Carey to referee SuperBowl XLII

I always wondered how the referees got picked to officiate the Super Bowl so I went looking for it. I found this article:

Mike Carey selected as Super Bowl referee

GLENDALE, Ariz., Jan. 30 (UPI) — Mike Carey, an 18-year veteran NFL game official, was selected to be the referee for Super Bowl XLII in Glendale, Ariz., on Sunday.

The game between the New York Giants and New England Patriots will be Carey’s first Super Bowl as referee. He was an alternate for Super Bowl XXXVI and has worked 14 playoff games, including two conference championships, in his career.

Carey was the referee when the Patriots beat the Giants, 38-35, in the regular-season finale.

Also on the officiating crew will be umpire Tony Michalek, head linesman Gary Slaughter, line judge Carl Johnson, field judge Boris Cheek, side judge Larry Rose and back judge Scott Helverson. The crew has 71 combined years of NFL officiating experience and 43 combined post-season game assignments.

Ken Baker is the replay assistant.

The National Football League selects its Super Bowl officials through an evaluation system. The highest-rated officials at each position, if they have five years NFL experience and previous playoff assignments, earn the chance to work the Super Bowl.

I thought that was interesting so I figured I would share.

Pepsi Stuff starts today

The new Pepsi Stuff promotion starts today. Save your codes and enter them them online for great prizes like Amazon downloads and Pepsi merchandise. You can get the codes from under the caps of Pepsi products. You can also get codes from 12 packs of cans and the 24 can cube. Oh, did I mention that they have sweepstakes that you can enter as well? There are some great prizes.

This is good for me because I drink Pepsi every day anyway. It’s not like I’m adding something new to my routine. I just hope I get a good prize.
