Watching tv all day

Ξ April 30th, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ tv |

I didn’t go to work today. All I did was watch tv all day. That is when I could John off of his X-Box. There was nothing good on tv either. The only thing that I saw that was mildy entertaining was commercials. I especially liked the Stride gum commercial where the ram banged into the guy to get him to spit out his gum. We both got a laugh out of that. Other than that, there was nothing we wanted to watch.

No wonder I don’t stay home from work very often. It’s very boring during the day.

Spending my Economic Stimulus money

Ξ April 29th, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ taxes, money |

I would love to be able to spend this money on whatever I want to. In a way I can, I don’t have any bills that are behind. I don’t really need to catch up on anything. But a lot of people need to spend this money on things that they need. Truck drivers need diesel fuel, ranchers need horse supplies, people behind on their mortgage need to pay their mortgage payments. I don’t need anything at this point.

Of course I could pay a bill down or save a portion of the check. You can never have too much in savings right? I just feel guilty when I’m doing ok and so many other people are struggling and barely making it. So I feel like I should do something responsible with the money instead of blowing it.

What about you? Are you going to be responsible with your money or spend it on fun stuff?

I had a blast yesterday

Ξ April 28th, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ sports, Yankees, baseball |

The best part was that the Yankees won 1-0 over the Cleveland Indians. Melky Cabrera hit a homerun in the 5th inning for the only run of the game. Robinson Cano was on 1st but got picked off trying to steal second. If he hadn’t gotten caught, it would have been a 2-run game.

Chien-Ming Wang and C.C. Sabathia were the pitchers. Jorge Posada got scratched just before the game started and got placed on the 15-day dl with a bad shoulder. Grady Sizemore didn’t play for the Indians because he had a sore right ankle. Everyone else that I wanted to see played.

John thought I didn’t have fun because there wasn’t more scoring but I enjoyed every minute of it. Well everything except the obnoxious Yankees fan next to me. He was a total jerk for most of the game and we were rooting for the same team. He’s one of the people that gives fans of any team a bad name.

I took my digital camera but it wasn’t working. I don’t know if it’s the batteries or the camera though. I should have tested it out before we went but it was a last minute decision to grab it anyway. Oh well I’ll be sure to check it out next time. And there will be a next time.

I’m already plotting our next game. I think it will be in Chicago over the Memorial Day weekend. I hope to catch at least 3 games at 3 different venues this summer.

Rain rain go away

Ξ April 26th, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ random |

It’s raining outside right now. We won’t be going to the Pirates game today. I don’t want to take the chance of sitting outside and it starts raining again. The weather tomorrow is supposed to be partly cloudy and 58 degrees. I can work with that. I’ll put on a long-sleeved shirt and maybe a hoodie to keep warm.

I can’t wait to see the game tomorrow!

My Friday Five

Ξ April 25th, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Friday Five, taxes, travel, money, baseball |

Today’s five topic is things I may spend my Economic Stimulus money on:

  1. Baseball in general. Whether it’s tickets, gas to the games or food. We’re making tentative plans to go to Chicago to either a Cubs or White Sox game. We may go back to Cleveland for a game as well.
  2. Sneakers. I want a pair of Nike Shox but I refuse to pay $120.00 for one pair of sneakers. I don’t care if it is “free tax money”.
  3. My car. I need tires and break pads. I don’t need rear spoilers or anything fancy for the car, I just want it to run.
  4. A small portion will go to tuition for school. Anything I can do to lessen the need for a student loan the better.
  5. Savings! Yup, even after all of the above I will still save a portion. I’m leaning towards 10% right now. I will save the money first and spend what’s left.

What about you? What do you plan on doing with your money?

John and I don’t agree on our vacation plans

Ξ April 24th, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ John, travel, vacation |

We usually get along so well and agree on almost everything. We usually only disagree on where to eat. And that’s because I always want IHOP and he wants to eat somewhere different each time. But vacation is a thorn in both of our sides.

I want to go to a beach or tropical location. He wants to go on a road trip to see baseball games. Money is tight for me because of school so this one actually works. I want to stay in a nice condo hotel, he wants to stay someplace cheap. I do agree that the hotel is just somewhere to sleep but I don’t want to stay in some el-cheapo fleabag place. I want to go to certain baseball games but he doesn’t want to go to those particular cities. Mostly because he doesn’t like the team that I do.

Our vacation is only a week long but I have a feeling that we’re going to disagree on a lot more issues. I guess it’s good to get it out of the way and see how well we can compromise with each other.

Joke of the week

Ξ April 24th, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ joke of the week |

“What Had Happened Was..”

The following are actual statements found on insurance forms where car drivers attempted to summarize the details of an accident in the fewest words:

Coming home I drove into the wrong house and collided with a tree I don’t have.

The other car collided with mine without giving warning of its intentions.

I thought my windows were down but I found out it was up when I put my head through it.

I collided with a stationary truck coming the other way.

A truck backed through my windshield into my wife’s face.

A pedestrian hit me and went under my car.

The guy was all over the road. I had to swerve a number of times before I hit him.

I pulled away from the side of the road, glanced at my mother-in-law and headed over the embankment.

In my attempt to kill a fly, I drove into a telephone pole.

I had been shopping for plants all day and was on my way home. As I reached an intersection, a hedge sprange up, obscuring my vision and I did not see the other car.

I had been driving for 40 years when I feel asleep at the wheel and had an accident.

I was on my way to the doctor with rear end trouble when my universal joint gave way causing me to have an accident.

As I approached the intersection, a sign suddenly appeared in a place where no stop sign had ever appeared before. I was unable to stop in time to avoid the accident. To avoid hitting the bumper of the car in front, I struck the pedestrian.

My car was legally parked as it backed into the other vehicle.

An invisible car came out of nowhere, struck my car and vanished.

I told the police that I was not injured but on removing my hat, I found that I had a fractured skull.

I was sure the old fellow would never make it to the other side of the road when I struck him. The pedestrian had no idea which direction to run so I ran over him.

I saw a slow moving, sad faced old gentlemen as he bounced off the hood of my car.

The indirect cause of the accident was a little guy in a small car with a big mouth.

I was thrown from my car as it left the road. I was later found in a ditch by some stray cows.

The telephone pole was approaching. I was attempting to swerve out of its way when it struck my front end.

Please weather cooperate

Ξ April 23rd, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Phillies, sports, Yankees, Pirates, baseball |

I am really hoping the weather cooperates for us on Saturday but especially on Sunday. Saturday I want to go see the Pirates vs the Phillies here in Pittsburgh. I don’t have the tickets yet but I have a gift card that I bought back in March that I can use. If it rains I won’t go but I’m hoping it’s nice so I can go. This is the only time the Phillies come to Pittsburgh this year. They usually only come once a season. Last year their trip here was in August and I was on vacation.

Sunday we’re going to Cleveland to see the Indians vs the Yankees. Guess who I’m rooting for? We got those tickets the day they went on sale. I’ve been waiting for this day for what seems like forever. It’s supposed to rain on Sunday and I’m really hoping it doesn’t. If the game is rained out we might not be able to go to the new game, especially if it’s a weeknight. We would have to take half a day the day of the game and be tired the next day because we wouldn’t get home until after midnight.

If it rains and they have the game anyway, we’ll have to sit in the rain and that doesn’t sound appealing. I just hope the rain stays away.

Uh where is my post?

Ξ April 22nd, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ work, things that suck |

Yesterday I wrote up this long post about my job. Somewhere between saving and publishing the post got lost. Now I don’t even remember what I wrote. I know I was ranting as usual about work and the people that I work with.

I think the thing that gets me the most is that the training is inadequate yet they expect you to be able to do your job. If the workleaders and supervisors spent less time online looking at term life insurance quotes and more time giving you updated work information, things would be a lot better.

Take my current situation for instance. I received work on 04/17. I don’t have one important paper that I need to complete the account. They sent it with the work so my workleader still has it. I emailed her and now I’m waiting for her to respond back with the paper. Until then the account just sits on my desk and the rep that submitted it is on my back. Why didn’t she give me the paper when she gave me the file?

Sheesh I’m venting again today.

Even my weekend was boring

Ξ April 20th, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ just chillin', shopping |

We didn’t do anything this weekend. We went to the mall and didn’t buy anything except a small fan. That’s it. We browsed around several stores looking at all kinds of stuff, mostly sneakers and sports gear. But we also looked at beds, home lighting fixtures, and air conditioners. We did get a laugh in Big Lots when the sales lady directed us to go past the ga-zay-bo instead of the ga-zee-bo. I guess it’s a regional dialect thing.

We do have to hit the grocery store tomorrow to get lunch for the week. We have enough food to get us through 2 days so there’s no rush to go out. I don’t plan on getting off of the couch for the rest of the day.
