I love the shows on HGTV

I’ve been watching House Hunters a lot lately. Part of the reason is because I’m looking to buy my own house soon. I also just like the concept of watching what other people look for in a home. The international edition is cool too. You get to really see what how other countries live once you get past the tourist traps. Some of the places look sketchy but once you see the inside of the houses, you just fall in love with the style.

My favorite show has to be Get It Sold. I absolutely love that show. To watch Sabrina make a few small changes and turn a room completely around is amazing. I watched her change a couch, add contemporary coffee tables and put a piece of art on the wall and the room looked totally different. The funny thing is that she used poster board to make the art but it looked like she bought it that way.

Once I finally make the move into my own house, I’m defintely going to look to these shows for decorating ideas.

My boss is a annoying control freak

When we had our weekly meeting last week she had a mini-meltdown about people calling off. Apparently, some people have just been leaving her a voice mail which she’s not happy about. I totally understand though. If you call anyone and get voicemail, it could mean that they’re not in the office for the day and no one would know where you’re at for the day.

Now, however, she’s decided that it’s not good enough to call a workleader or our “co-manager”. She wants us to call her too. Imo that’s overkill. Why do I need to speak to 50-11 people just to call off? As long as I talk to one person why isn’t that good enough. Can’t that person just relay the message?

Then today she had a hissy fit because she decided we need a “jump start” meeting every morning. Those types of meetings can be helpful if you have daily goals or have visitors, etc. They totally don’t apply in our area. Anyway, no one had anything to say because we don’t think the meetings are productive. So she got mad and literally stormed out of the meeting. Wow! Really?!?! So unprofessional.

My boss is just miserable and she’s trying to beat us all down to her level of misery. Well it’s not gonna work in my case. I’m just gonna let her roll off my back and keep it movin’.

Once a month deep linking post

I try to write something on this blog at least 5 days per week. Thursday is my joke of the week but the other 4 days are original content. At least once per month, I’m going to start deep linking at least 1 post. That means, I’ll link to one of my old posts in a current post. My goal is to use a post that’s at least 6 months old. Not only will this challenge me to try and come up with fresh content. It will give me a chance to see how my writing style may have changed.

I figure there’s no time like the present, so I deep-linked to one of my favorite jokes that I originally posted almost a year ago. Enjoy again, I know I did.

Joke of the week

Sitting at a stoplight, I was puzzling over the meaning of the vanity plate on the car in front of me. It read “Innie.” Then I got it. The make of the car was Audi.

I really wish I had some extra cash right now

Real estate prices are insanely low. I want to buy a townhouse style condo and while I’m planning on buying here in the city that I live in, I would love to actually buy something in Florida. I’ve wanted to move to Florida for a long time and now would be a great time to make the move. I would go to a miami car rental place, grab a car and go cruising around to check out a few neighborhoods. While Miami is nice, there are a few sketchy areas that I would have to weed out and the best way to do that is to drive around see everything for yourself.

Miami is on my short list of places that I would really love to go to. Jacksonville and the Orlando area are also high up there. Did I mention that I really wish I had some cash right now. Real estate prices are insanely low and I could score a great deal right now. Unfortunately by the time I get my act together, the real estate market will be rebounding and I won’t be able to score a deal like I could right now.

Just another reason why I’m focusing on plumping up my savings acccount.

I’m not the only one having a rough day

I woke up this morning and didn’t feel well. I don’t have anyone’s phone number at our new location so I had to text 2 of my coworkers to get one of the managers phone number. When I finally reached my manager, she told me that I was one of 4 people that had called off today. Last week 3 people called off on Monday so it’s starting to seem like a trend. Since this is the last “official” week of Summer, I’m sure the call offs will even out in the next week or two.

Hopefully I’ll feel better tomorrow.

I just ordered another gift card

It’s only a $10 card though. And it’s from a store that I normally don’t shop at. It doesn’t make sense to try and sell it on eBay because I can only get about $7-8 for it. After eBay fees I would only clear about $5. That’s hardly worth the time I would spend posting the item and dealing with the auction aftermath.

I’m sure I can find something to buy from the store with the $10. I do know that I will have fun shopping with it. Nothing beats free.

I’m getting gift cards from my rewards programs

I belong to several rewards programs and I’m at the point where I can cash out from a couple of them. I’ve been trying to decide what to get and I’m going for gift cards. I wanted the cash but the redemption value is so low that I would be better off with the gift cards.

I also had to take into consideration the fact that I can get buy.com gift cards and try to stack them. I need a new computer and I’ve been eyeing up a Sony VAIO that I saw. With gift cards, I can knock the part that I have to come up with down by almost half.

I just need to actually pull the trigger on the redemptions now before all of the good gift cards sell out.

Joke of the week

Life B.C. (Before Computers)…

An application was for employment
A program was a TV show
A cursor used profanity
A keyboard was a piano!

Memory was something that you lost with age
A CD was a bank account
And if you had a 3 1/2 inch floppy
You hoped nobody found out!

Compress was something you did to garbage
Not something you did to a file
And if you unzipped anything in public
You’d be in jail for awhile!

Log on was adding wood to a fire
Hard drive was a long trip on the road
A mouse pad was where a mouse lived
And a backup happened to your commode!

Cut - you did with a pocket knife
Paste you did with glue
A web was a spider’s home
And a virus was the flu!

I guess I’ll stick to my pad and paper
And the memory in my head
I hear nobody’s been killed in a computer crash
But when it happens they wish they were dead!

I’m glad I didn’t get my hair done

I was supposed to go to the hair dresser last week to get my hair cut and styled. But I decided to cancel the appointment and save the money instead. Now I’m glad I did. It is so hot and humid again this week. It’s supposed to be hot tomorrow as well but really cool down by Friday. I would have been so mad had I gotten my hair done. It would have totally frizzed out the day after getting it done.

Since everyone will try to get their hair done for the holiday weekend, I may be able to squeeze in next week. But if it’s going to be in the 90 degree range for more than 2 days, I’m gonna hold off. Getting my hair done in the heat and humidity is like throwing money away.
