This weather is crazy

Yeah it’s snowing again. But that’s not the crazy part. Nope almost 3 feet of snow and still going and there is something else even crazier going on. It’s snowing almost everywhere in the U.S., even in Texas. One of our off sites almost had to close down because they had a foot of snow in Dallas of all places. I guess if you had an appointment with a Plano dentist then you had to cancel because you couldn’t get there. In this area we’re used to snow but Dallas shuts down with 2 or 3 inches so I could just imagine how much havoc a whole foot of snow caused.

This weather is really crazy.

It’s not jeans day?

We wear business casual clothes at work. There are times that we are allowed to wear jeans though. It’s usually every Friday. Well we’re allowed to wear jeans from Christmas Eve through New Years Day. However when we were in our weekly staff meeting, we were told that we could wear jeans the week of Christmas, which is this week. Unfortunately, our manager told us the wrong week so we showed up to work with jeans while everyone else was dressed up.

Thankfully they didn’t ask us to change. You had better believe that my manager sent out a blast email letting us know the correct dates. Oops my bad!

One of the crazy things that happened yesterday

Yesterday was totally weird. All of the things happened before I even started work. One thing happened just outside of my job. I was walking across the courtyard towards my building when a man standing by the ATM dropped his wallet. Everything in his pocket fell out including everything in the wallet. His credit cards, money and id hit the ground.

Someone went to bend over to help him when he shouted “No!” really loud, spread his arms spread eagle and got into a football stance. You really have to imagine it to get the full visual. Then you’ll see how funny it was.

I do understand him not wanting anyone to touch his stuff, especially since it was sensitive information. But that was a crazy scene at 8 o’clock in the morning.

I’m glad the G20 Summit is over

It’s been chaotic here for the past 3 days. Streets have been totally shut down while the dignitaries were in town. Apparently it’s par for the course wherever the summits go. People in cities like New York and Chicago are used to it because they have these kinds of events all of the time. We never have stuff like this happen.

We like when big events come to town because it generally means a windfall for the city as far as revenues. This time almost every business in the downtown area is closed so there won’t be a big boost to the economy. It does show that the city can handle this type of event again in the future.

Maybe next time we’ll see some kind of economic benefit from a large event such as this. For now I’m glad this is over. I don’t like seeing the police, the National Guard, and armed military personnel on every corner.

G20 Madness

It’s crazy here in Pittsburgh and it will stay crazy for the next 3 days. We have the G20 Summit beginnning on Thursday. However most businesses expect disruptions as early as tomorrow due to protestors. The police raided a local cemetery where some of the protestors were camping out. There is no way I’m sleeping in a cemetery. Yuck!! I’m superstitious too so that would really be a no go.

I just hope I don’t run into them on my way home today. Some of those people are nuts.

I am so busy

Work is crazy busy right now. Some days I don’t know if I’m coming or going. I’m trying to keep track of everything but something always falls through the cracks. It’s good that I’m busy because it keeps my mind occupied. Even if it does seem like I’m going crazy some days.

At least I have a mini vacation coming up soon.

I stole a umbrella

But I didn’t do it intentionally. I saw two girls standing by the back doors on the bus. Then I saw one of them catch a umbrella that was falling and stand it back up. When I got off of the bus, I saw that the umbrella was still there. I thought it belonged to 1 of the two girls that had been standing by the door so I grabbed it and went after them.

When I caught up to them at the next light, they told me that it wasn’t either of theirs and it had been there when they got on the bus. I turned around to hand it to the bus driver but he pulled off before I could get his attention. There had been a guy standing in the doorway before the girls had gotten on the bus and I think it may be his umbrella. He only catches the bus once a week and I don’t want to try to carry it everyday. I’ll probably run it over to the bus company to be put in their lost and found. Hopefully someone will claim it cause it’s one of those really big golf umbrellas.

See, I really didn’t take it one purpose.

Boom goes the toilet Part 2

See the post from yesterday to read Part 1.

Now what I wrote sounded reasonable right?!?!

Except the water exploded out and started spraying everywhere. It was like a crazy faucet shooting up towards the ceiling and then showering down. I started running around like a fool because I couldn’t get the valve off. After a minute or two (a that many inches of water on my floor), I went and got a pair of plyers. While they didn’t turn the valve off, they did make the valve easier to turn.

I’m down on the floor with water pouring all over me trying to turn this water off. I finally got it off and saw several inches of water on the floor. I went to the towel closet and grabbed every towel I owned except one, which was white, and threw them on the floor to soak up the water. I took me a hour and a half to soak up the water, wring out the towels and start over.

Then I had to wipe down the pebbles from the wall. We have these pebbled ceilings that was destroyed by the water. The pebbles were all over the wall and the floor. Which of course meant that they got into my clothes and my towels. After all of that, I took a shower and laid down at 3am - ish.

When the maintenance guy looked at my toilet, he told me the piece had completely rusted away so it was only a matter of time before it went. Luckily it happened when I was home because it could have been a disaster if it had happened while I was at work.

All’s well that ends well I guess. I am buying all new towels though.

Boom goes the toilet

Or welcome to the great flood in my apartment, whichever you prefer. All I can say is what a nightmare.

I got up to go to the bathroom at 1am and heard water running. I figured out that the source was my toilet tank. I looked down and water was starting to come out from the tank onto the floor. I lifted the tank up and saw that the float bulb wasn’t regulating right. I pushed it down to make it realize the tank was full but the water kept going. In my infinite wisdom, I decided to lift it up to stop the water. Sounds reasonable right?!?!
