It’s gonna be a sports Sunday

Ξ September 21st, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ sports, Yankees, Steelers, football, baseball |

I got my homework done yesterday so I wouldn’t have to worry about it today. I’ll wait until tomorrow to wash clothes. That way I can watch sports all day long. I probably won’t watch the early football game. But I’ll watch the Steelers vs the Eagles at 4:15. Then I’ll watch the Yankees vs the Orioles at 8pm. I guess you know who I’ll be rooting for right?

The only thing I may do early in the day before the games come on is clean the bathroom. My sink, especially the Kohler faucets are kind of spotty. I’ll also mop the floor and clean the mirror. That shouldn’t take long at all.

Then I’ll od on sports for the rest of the day.

My Friday Five

Ξ September 12th, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Friday Five, sports, football, baseball |

I haven’t really written about sports lately so today’s topic is: 5 random sports items

  1. I wrote a post about Shawne Merriman a week ago. I’m glad to see that he’s having the surgery he needs. I hate to see the Charger’s lose him for the season but that’s better than him having a potentially career-endind injury.
  2. I can’t believe the Browns are still talking smack after getting crushed by the Cowboys last week. Sunday night is the Steelers turn to hand them a butt whooping!
  3. Tom Brady is lost for the season! He tore his MCL and his ACL. The team will wait for his MCL to heal then he’ll have surgery on the ACL. His expected recovery time is 9 months. Training camp starts in 10 months so he should be good to go for next year.
  4. Forbes magazines estimates that the 3 pro football teams worth the most money are: Dallas Cowboys, Washington Redskins, and New England Patriots.
  5. You know the Yankees are having a rough go of it when they haven’t shown one of their games on regular tv in almost 3 weeks. Now, I have to turn to my electronics media to see them. Usually there’s a game on once a week. I miss drooling over A-Rod.

Have a great weekend!

Does Shawne Merriman need a building to fall on his head?

Ξ August 26th, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ sports, football |

What is he crazy? He’s had 3 opinions telling him to get surgery and take the season off. He now wants a 4th opinion. Then what?!?!?! A 5th or 6th. Have the surgery, sit it on down and get ready for next season. If he decides to try and play this year, he risks a career-ending injury.

Sit down Shawne!

I might be able to add to my sports shelf

I think it’s pretty evident that I love sports. I talk about them a lot. Not as much as I used to, but it’s still more than most. Anyway, I have a sports shelf in my living room with a few bobbleheads and a autographed football among other things. I didn’t think I would be able to add any more sports collectibles for a while but now I might be able to.

I found a site called Hyped-Up Sports that sells sports memorabilia which is cool. But even better is their new program called the Send It In Program where you send in stuff to be signed by your favorite athlete. So far they have LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods and Kevin Durant. Each person signs on their own schedule. Actually, I just checked and Michael Jordan was scheduled in February. Bummer! But everyone else is still available. What a great way to add sports collectibles to my growing collection of articles.

When I first went to the site, the first item that caught my eye was a Alex Rodriguez autographed bat. Now I know that I have a “I love Ryan Howard” category, but I really love A-Rod. It’s too bad he’s not in the program. Do you think I could send myself? No. Oh well, I guess I’ll just have to stalk admire him when he comes to Pittsburgh in June. I can not wait!!!!!!!

Giants defeat the Patriots!

Ξ February 3rd, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ John, sports, football |

Ha! I am so happy. I hate the Patriots. It’s funny because nobody gave the Giants a chance and they won in the final minutes of the game. It was weird rooting for the Giants. It was like rooting for the lesser of 2 evils, but I just knew I didn’t want the Patriots to have a perfect season.

Eli won the MVP. I know that will be a trivia question down the road. What brothers won the SuperBowl in back to back years and were the game MVP’s. As an added bonus for me, John won his football pool. Awesomeness! It’s been a great day!

Mike Carey to referee SuperBowl XLII

Ξ February 3rd, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ sports, football |

I always wondered how the referees got picked to officiate the Super Bowl so I went looking for it. I found this article:

Mike Carey selected as Super Bowl referee

GLENDALE, Ariz., Jan. 30 (UPI) — Mike Carey, an 18-year veteran NFL game official, was selected to be the referee for Super Bowl XLII in Glendale, Ariz., on Sunday.

The game between the New York Giants and New England Patriots will be Carey’s first Super Bowl as referee. He was an alternate for Super Bowl XXXVI and has worked 14 playoff games, including two conference championships, in his career.

Carey was the referee when the Patriots beat the Giants, 38-35, in the regular-season finale.

Also on the officiating crew will be umpire Tony Michalek, head linesman Gary Slaughter, line judge Carl Johnson, field judge Boris Cheek, side judge Larry Rose and back judge Scott Helverson. The crew has 71 combined years of NFL officiating experience and 43 combined post-season game assignments.

Ken Baker is the replay assistant.

The National Football League selects its Super Bowl officials through an evaluation system. The highest-rated officials at each position, if they have five years NFL experience and previous playoff assignments, earn the chance to work the Super Bowl.

I thought that was interesting so I figured I would share.

Football Sunday

Ξ January 20th, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ sports, football, baseball |

I’m sitting here watching the Patriots and Chargers game. I’m really rooting for the Chargers because I don’t like the Patriots. Then later on this afternoon, it’s the Packers and the NY Giants. I’m rooting for the Packers in that game. Both games will determine who gets to play in the Super Bowl. It’s win or go home this time of year so every game is important.

My boyfriend asked me if I wanted to go to a game because he would buy some college football tickets. I was like dude the college season is already over. He doesn’t really like football so he wouldn’t know. He’s more of a baseball fan which is cool because I like baseball too.

Speaking of which, pitchers and catchers report when?

I’m loving these playoff games

Ξ January 13th, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ sports, football |

They’re awesome! I didn’t want the Patriots to win but I figured they would. I love the fact that the Packers and Chargers won their games. I hope the Giants beat the Cowboys then everything will be perfect for next week.

I’ve been chillin’ all weekend watching football and eating good food. The only thing that would make it better would be if I had some home theater furniture like a big comfy couch or something. But I’m not complaining heck I would sit on the floor to watch the games.

The only things that sucks about this time of year is that it means the NFL season is almost over. It also means that it’s the middle of winter. Blech. When do pitchers and catchers report? I hope it’s soon. C’mon spring!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Ξ November 22nd, 2007 | → 0 Comments | ∇ holidays, sports, football |

I hope everybody out there has a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving day. I’m not doing anything special. My family lives in another state and I have to work Friday. I just plan on sticking close to home.

I do have a full day of football planned though.

Steelers lose to the Jets

Ξ November 18th, 2007 | → 0 Comments | ∇ sports, things that suck, Steelers, football |

I hate overtime games. It’s so arbitrary. First team to score wins. Blah. The Steelers allowed 7 sacks of Ben today. That’s ridiculous. This whole game was ridiculous. The team played sloppy on both sides of the ball. Now we’re tied with the Browns as far as records go but the Steelers hold the tie breaker.
