I love days off from work

Today is one of those holidays that doesn’t really feel like a holiday. It’s President’s Day so there is no mail or trash pickup and banks are closed but almost everything else is operating like normal. So I’m just laying low in the house watching tv. I wish I had a Amish fireplace to curl up in front of with a glass of cocoa cause it’s pretty cold outside. I’ll just wrap up in a blanket like I usually do.

I’m just going to try and enjoy the rest of my day.

I have to get in the spirit

I’m never in the Christmas spirit. I don’t know if it’s because I don’t have kids or that my family lives so far away or what. I do know that I’ve never been into Christmas. It just seems like a big fussy day and I hate fuss. It just seems like the holidays are so commercialized and it just seems like a big gift grab.

Maybe I’ll be more excited come Friday. But if I don’t go home to visit my mom, it will be just another day at least for me.

Ahhh another off day

Holidays are great. I love having 3 days off to do nothing but loaf around the house and watch tv all day. Unfortunately it seems to go so fast. I can’t believe I only have 3 hours until I have to get ready for work again.

At least I still have a football game and the rest of the baseball game to watch tonight. I don’t have to worry about hearing about my friends disability appeal or her medical issues. At least not until tomorrow anyway. I plan on enjoying the rest of the night by kicking back and putting my feet up and watching tv until I fall asleep.

Have a safe holiday weekend

It’s the Fourth Of July weekend starting today. Tomorrow is the actual holiday but since it’s the weekend people started celebrating early. I won’t be doing anything special but if you’re going to be out and about, make sure you have a safe and enjoyable weekend!

Today is National Donut Day

Now that’s a yummy holiday if I ever heard of one. Dunkin Donuts is giving away a free donut with the purchase of a beverage. Krispy Kreme (my favorite, yum yum) is giving away a free donut with no strings attached. I actually had a Krispy Kreme today and it was delicious. The weight loss supplement pills that I’m taking are going to be working overtime today. Especially since I had the donut early this morning (around 2am-ish) before I actually went to bed. I’ve been pretty good lately so I’m not too worried about it.

Now you get out there and enjoy this national holiday.

Today feels like a Monday

It’s the day after New Year’s Day and it’s already dragging. The day after a holiday is usually a really slow day. It just drags by and seems to go even more slowly than usual. But today feels weird. It feels like it’s a Monday instead of a Friday. I keep thinking about things that I need to do “this week”, but they’re things I really need to do next week.

The plus side is that it is Friday and the weekend is here.

I don’t think I’m going home for Christmas

I don’t have any days left at work. I was sick twice this year and missed 5 of my 6 days. Then I had to use my personal day to take care of some business for school. If I take the day after Christmas off, I won’t get paid for it. Not only that but I can’t afford the ticket home either. If I can’t go home, I surely can’t afford to go shopping for home theater seating. I can’t really afford anything this holiday season. I’m even short with my school budget so I really need to start bringing in some extra cash.

If I’m stuck here by myself, what in the world am I going to do all day to occupy my time?

What exactly is Cinco De Mayo?

I know that I learned this in school, but for the life of me I couldn’t figure out exactly what Cinco De Mayo was celebrating.

From Wikipedia:

Cinco de Mayo (Spanish for “5th of May”) is primarily a regional and not an obligatory federal holiday in Mexico.[1][2][3][4][5] The holiday commemorates an initial victory of Mexican forces led by General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguín over French forces in the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. The date is observed in the United States and other locations around the world as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride.

A common misconception in the United States is that Cinco de Mayo is Mexico’s Independence Day; Mexico’s Independence Day is actually September 16 (dieciséis de septiembre in Spanish), which is the most important national patriotic holiday in Mexico.

Boo for April Fools Day!

I put the category as holidays even though it’s really not. Today is April 1st more commonly known as April Fools Day. I hate today because I hate pratical jokes and gags. Most jokes are done for fun and in good taste but I still don’t like them.

Usually there’s no reason to be happy that I work in a stodgy conservative deparment. Today is one day that I’m glad to be here though. These people are so rigid and uptight that I doubt they know anything about practical jokes.
