Today feels like a Monday

Ξ January 2nd, 2009 | → 0 Comments | ∇ holidays, random |

It’s the day after New Year’s Day and it’s already dragging. The day after a holiday is usually a really slow day. It just drags by and seems to go even more slowly than usual. But today feels weird. It feels like it’s a Monday instead of a Friday. I keep thinking about things that I need to do “this week”, but they’re things I really need to do next week.

The plus side is that it is Friday and the weekend is here.

I don’t think I’m going home for Christmas

Ξ December 11th, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ holidays, travel, family |

I don’t have any days left at work. I was sick twice this year and missed 5 of my 6 days. Then I had to use my personal day to take care of some business for school. If I take the day after Christmas off, I won’t get paid for it. Not only that but I can’t afford the ticket home either. If I can’t go home, I surely can’t afford to go shopping for home theater seating. I can’t really afford anything this holiday season. I’m even short with my school budget so I really need to start bringing in some extra cash.

If I’m stuck here by myself, what in the world am I going to do all day to occupy my time?

What exactly is Cinco De Mayo?

Ξ May 5th, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ holidays, random |

I know that I learned this in school, but for the life of me I couldn’t figure out exactly what Cinco De Mayo was celebrating.

From Wikipedia:

Cinco de Mayo (Spanish for “5th of May”) is primarily a regional and not an obligatory federal holiday in Mexico.[1][2][3][4][5] The holiday commemorates an initial victory of Mexican forces led by General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguín over French forces in the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. The date is observed in the United States and other locations around the world as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride.

A common misconception in the United States is that Cinco de Mayo is Mexico’s Independence Day; Mexico’s Independence Day is actually September 16 (dieciséis de septiembre in Spanish), which is the most important national patriotic holiday in Mexico.

Boo for April Fools Day!

Ξ April 1st, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ holidays, random |

I put the category as holidays even though it’s really not. Today is April 1st more commonly known as April Fools Day. I hate today because I hate pratical jokes and gags. Most jokes are done for fun and in good taste but I still don’t like them.

Usually there’s no reason to be happy that I work in a stodgy conservative deparment. Today is one day that I’m glad to be here though. These people are so rigid and uptight that I doubt they know anything about practical jokes.

Free e-cards for Valentine’s Day

Check out this cool link for free e-cards for Valentine’s Day. I know I would be happy if someone sent me an e-card at work on Valentine’s Day. Hint, hint.

Do you buy gag gifts?

Ξ January 30th, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ birthdays, John, holidays |

John thought I was going to buy him a gag gift for his birthday. I don’t know why though. I had been telling him that I had a good gift picked out for him since mid-December. I know he loves baseball so I knew that would make a great gift.

I guess he thought I would get him something stupid like a Chia Pet or something. He said depending on what I got him, he already had some gag gifts picked out for my birthday. He said something crazy like Depends, progesterone or something silly like that. Of course that’s a crack at my age since I’m older than he is. That’s cool I can take a joke.

I’m just glad he realized that I didn’t get him a gag gift. Maybe that means I’ll get something cool for my birthday. I have to wait until August to find out though.

I’ll let John pick his present

Ξ January 29th, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ birthdays, John, holidays |

I thought about it today while here at work. I’m going to let John decide which game to go to. I know he loves the Mets but there might be a game he may want to go to even more. We’ve been talking about going to Cleveland (because I want to see the Yankees). He might want to go to one of the games in Cleveland. We both like the giveaways during the games, especially bobblehead night. So I think that’s a better idea.

Hopefully he agrees.

Happy Birthday John!

Ξ January 29th, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ birthdays, John, holidays |

Today is John’s birthday. I woke up a little after midnight and told him Happy Birthday. I was half sleep but I remember him saying to me that he wouldn’t officially turn 29 until 6:45pm. lolol, yeah ok.

I have his card here at work. I’ll give it to him later tonight. He’s going to a job fair after work so he won’t get home until probably 6 or 6:30pm. We’re going out to dinner, hopefully Olive Garden. I didn’t get him a present but it’s because they’re not on sale yet. His favorite baseball team is the Mets so I’m getting him tickets to the Saturday night game with fireworks. I guess I’ll put some kind of IOU in his card.

I don’t have to worry about him finding out what I’m giving him because he doesn’t read my blog.

What do you have planned for the long weekend?

Ξ January 16th, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ John, holidays |

This coming Monday is Martin Luther King Jr. day so it will be a 3 day weekend me and John. We both work at a bank so anytime there is a holiday, we’re both off. We probably won’t be doing anything because John just moved and he’ll be moving again in another month or 2. So he just put out a month of rent and a security deposit (which he’ll lose). Now he’ll need another security deposit.

His money will be tight and mine is always tight. Therefore, I doubt very seriously if we’ll do anything at all this weekend. On Sunday, we’ll probably watch football all day. We may go to Wally World to get food, juice, and auto accessories (I need a new car emergency kit) for my car. Other than that, we’ll probably just sit around the house and stare at each other all weekend.

I wish I had some extra money so we could take a short trip somewhere this weekend. I hate letting long weekends go to waste. Especially since we’ll both be in school starting in the summer so we won’t be able to do a lot.

Now I won’t be cutting it quite as close

Ξ December 20th, 2007 | → 0 Comments | ∇ holidays, travel |

My manager is letting me leave 1/2 hr early tomorrow. That means I’ll leave work a full 2 hours before my flight. That’s enough time to drive to the airport, park and get through security. I just like to be at the airport an hour in advance of my flight because you never know what’s going to happen. Security could be backed up, traffic could be bad, you name it and it could happen to me.

Holiday travel is stressful.
