I wonder what spammers actually get

From the spam comments I mean. I thought it was just backlinks to their sites, which can be very important if you’re trying to make money. Those backlinks can increase the visibility of your site and also raise the page rank. The rank of your site determines how much people are willing to pay you for those links. If you need to sell anti wrinkle cream, shoes or furniture, you would pay more for a site that highly ranked and even more for a site that is relevant to yours.

Otherwise I don’t see what they get out of spamming others. Unless they just a kick out of annoying other people.

I can’t let spammers upset me

It’s almost funny because I really almost let one of them get to me. The comment said something like my opinion was wrong and I didn’t know what I was talking about. When I first read the comment I got aggitated. Then I looked to see what post it was on and whether or not the comment was relevant. It wasn’t. They commented on a really old post about me mailing a bill late. Since the comment was geared towards quick trim users, it wasn’t even remotely related to my post. I just deleted it and kept moving.

It’s really funny how some of the spam comments almost get through. I just have to keep watching them and make sure I only approve real comments. No free back links for you Mr. Spammer Guy.

I need to stockpile some posts

There are days like today when I really don’t have anything to say. I mean I do but I can’t always put it into words. That’s why I generally stockpile at least 3 or 4 posts for emergencies. That way all I have to do is edit the post to make it current and hit publish. I can write about anything from tv stands to Tiger Woods and his latest drama. But today I’ve hit a wall.

I should be back to normal tomorrow. I guess all of those days off last week knocked me off of my game.

I need to learn how to crop pictures

I wanted to post more pictures in celebration of the Yankees win but the one I did post didn’t come out right. They’re too long and too wide. I’ve never really had any luck with posting pictures to my blog. I’ve tried several times and I almost always mess up. I can find a life insurance lead or any other information that I need online but when I need to post pictures I have trouble.

I need to start networking with more bloggers to find out where I’m going wrong.

I want to be more active on the internet

Not by more blogging though. I have several and it’s hard keeping up with all of them. What I am thinking of doing is joining either Facebook and/or Twitter. I do have a Twitter account but I haven’t used it except once. I’m still not sure exactly how it works. I haven’t joined Facebook but everyone swears by it.

I think I’m just using this as an excuse to get a smart phone with internet access. It still should be fun though since I like being on the internet anyway.

I have these annoying pop-ups

I can’t stand them. They just pop-up whenever they want to. I don’t do anything special to trigger them. I know that I probably downloaded some software of something that makes them appear but I can’t find the code to get rid of it.

If I can’t buy a new computer soon, I’ll reformat this one to get rid of everything. It’s bad enough this thing runs super slow, now I have to contend with this craziness. I guess that’s what I get for just randomly downloading stuff and not really understanding what it is. You best believe I’ve learned my lesson from that.

They’re blocking more websites

I was able to access the internet at work. There are a bunch of sites that I’m unable to get to like MySpace, FaceBook and Ebay. I was able to get regular sites including blogs. I came back to work today and everything is blocked. I can only get news sites now. I need something to read during lunch.

I wonder if it’s a corporate block or if someone is turning in sites individually?

So is it spam or not?

Sometimes it’s easy to tell if something is spam. It’s just obvious links to drug sites, p0rn or stuff like that. Other times it’s not so easy to tell though.

I have a innocuous looking comment on my other blog. It has a helpful suggestion as well. The suggestion was something that I’ve been thinking about (but hadn’t verbalized on my blog) for a while. But upon closer inspection, the link was to a email address and the ip address led to domain registrar.

I think the person wants their first comment approved so that they can come back and spam me later. Those subsequent comments would be auto approved on my blog. Unless I’m extra vigilant about looking at my dashboard (which I usually am), the comments would get through.

What do you think? How do you decide which comments to let through and which ones to keep an eye on?

Doing business online

I conduct all of my business online. It’s just a matter of convenience really. And the best part is that I can do everything from home and work.

Yup don’t tell my boss but I do everything from work. Everything from banking to paying bills, even getting life insurance quotes. During an average week I spend more waking hours at my job than anywhere else so it just makes sense that I conduct business from work. For example the handle on my tub is loose so later on today or tomorrow I’ll call my maintenance man to come over and fix it for me.

My boyfriend doesn’t have internet access at work so I realize how fortunate I am to be able to do this stuff here. I try not to take advantage and only blog and stuff during my lunch hour or whenever we’re really slow at work. I never blow off work to play on the internet. Unless I’m sleepy and need the distraction. Speaking of which, I’d better get back to work now.

You Tube is getting plenty of people in trouble

I have never used You Tube. Well, I have posted movie and/or music trailers on my blogs. But I haven’t posted videos of me or my friends that we’ve taken.

On todays newscast, they showed someone driving an ambulance with the sirens blaring. He also had the music blasting and was taking his hands off the wheel and dancing! He posted it on the internet and now he’s facing criminal charges and may get fired from his job.

They’ve also showed people attacking strangers at sporting events. Oh boy, ha ha that’s funny right? No, not really and these people are facing disciplinary action. Duh stop posting incriminating evidence on the web.
