Archive for the ‘taxes’

I still haven’t filed all of my taxes

I did file my federal and state taxes but not my local taxes yet. My local taxes usually balance out where I don’t get anything but I also don’t owe anything. The only reason I haven’t filed yet is that I can’t file online. I have to fill out the forms by hand and it takes a while to do so. It’s a boring and time consuming task so I put it off until the last minute.

I guess I had better do it soon before I forget.

Everything is a waiting game

It seems like I’m waiting for something in almost every aspect of my life.

  • I’m waiting to hear from a recruiter about a potential job interview.
  • I’m waiting on my w-2’s to file my taxes.
  • I’m waiting for my anti-virus to work on my computer.
  • I’m waiting on some money to come in.
  • I’m waiting to see if it will be cash or gift cards.

And so on and so on. It’s really quite tiresome. I’ll be glad when the only thing I’m waiting on is vacation. Now that’s something to wait for.

Spending my Economic Stimulus money

I would love to be able to spend this money on whatever I want to. In a way I can, I don’t have any bills that are behind. I don’t really need to catch up on anything. But a lot of people need to spend this money on things that they need. Truck drivers need diesel fuel, ranchers need horse supplies, people behind on their mortgage need to pay their mortgage payments. I don’t need anything at this point.

Of course I could pay a bill down or save a portion of the check. You can never have too much in savings right? I just feel guilty when I’m doing ok and so many other people are struggling and barely making it. So I feel like I should do something responsible with the money instead of blowing it.

What about you? Are you going to be responsible with your money or spend it on fun stuff?

My Friday Five

Today’s five topic is things I may spend my Economic Stimulus money on:

  1. Baseball in general. Whether it’s tickets, gas to the games or food. We’re making tentative plans to go to Chicago to either a Cubs or White Sox game. We may go back to Cleveland for a game as well.
  2. Sneakers. I want a pair of Nike Shox but I refuse to pay $120.00 for one pair of sneakers. I don’t care if it is “free tax money”.
  3. My car. I need tires and break pads. I don’t need rear spoilers or anything fancy for the car, I just want it to run.
  4. A small portion will go to tuition for school. Anything I can do to lessen the need for a student loan the better.
  5. Savings! Yup, even after all of the above I will still save a portion. I’m leaning towards 10% right now. I will save the money first and spend what’s left.

What about you? What do you plan on doing with your money?

Where are my tax forms?

I’m looking for my tax forms. I know that companies have until the end of January to mail them out but I was hoping that they would come sooner rather than later. I don’t have my w-2 from work yet. I do have my stock and interest forms. I also have the form I need to deduct my student loan interest and the form to take the Lifetime Learning Credit.

I think they messed up on that though because they’re saying I paid one amount including the money I spent for spring. They didn’t count what I spent last spring. So I’ll have to go back and get those papers because I didn’t deduct that money last year. I didn’t get the forms from the community college yet. I need those because that’s another $380 to deduct. One of my blogging companies owes me a 1099 because I made over $600. So I guess I’m waiting for 2 papers to come in.

I hope I get a refund because that money can go towards vacation. We’re looking at cruises but we don’t want to spend a lot of money. A four or five day cruise would be nice. I also want to use some of the refund to pay towards the principal of my car. That’s assuming that I get a refund at all. I won’t know until I get all of my tax forms. I hope they come in soon.
